Neurofeedback therapy
For some people, it can be a struggle to regulate their body sensations, emotions and thoughts. This can be especially challenging for those who are neurodiverse, have learning difficulties or have adverse mental health presentations. Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, safe therapy that uses Electroencephalogram (EEG) technology to assist the brain's own ability to self-regulate. Neurofeedback does not place anything inside the brain; instead, it provides visual and auditory feedback to train the brain's voluntary and involuntary symptoms and behaviours.
In addition to neurofeedback's non-invasive and safe nature, many people experience long-lasting results after neurofeedback treatment. This treatment can be used for people as young as four years old through to those in their senior years. My goal is to provide a safe, collaborative space for clients to explore neurofeedback therapy both within the assessment and intervention stages. I draw upon an integrated approach by combining a variety of talk therapy modalities with neurofeedback therapy as part of the holistic care of you or your child.
Below is the list of common concerns that can be explored through Neurofeedback Therapy:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Traumatic symptoms (PTSD, complex trauma)
- ADHD/ADD

Often people can struggle with a combination of mental health concerns. FAQs
How do I know if I or my child needs Neurofeedback Therapy?
Some people find it difficult to function normally or to regulate their emotions. Sometimes this can result from mental health issues such as anxiety, or neurodiverse issues such as ADHD or ASD. Regardless of the issue, neurofeedback can be an effective companion to your existing therapy. For many people, traditional medication-based therapies produce unwanted side effects. For some individuals, their issues are or become medication resistant. Neurofeedback can be an effective alternative to antidepressants or ADHD medications. Neurofeedback is a long-term solution, which can be reduced over time so that one does not need regular sessions. This is in contrast to medication which only works while you are taking it. Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive intervention making it a leading alternative for NDIS clients with complex needs. These are just some of the many reasons people seek neurofeedback therapy. If you are still unsure if neurofeedback therapy is the right decision, contact me via the "contact" webpage. I will endeavour to answer any of your questions or concerns.
What happens in Neurofeedback Therapy?
Neurofeedback Therapy takes place face-to-face. An initial assessment is carried out through a miniEEG or QEEG brain scan. This is achieved by placing sensors across the scalp and ears to monitor brainwave signals. After the initial assessment, the neurofeedback training involves the client interacting with a DVD or video game while the EEG sensors are placed on the client's head and ears. This DVD and video game changes subtly in response to the EEG signals. When you use the correct brainwaves, the graphics move along quicker, which trains your brain to use the correct patterns. Over time and with repetition, the brain is prepared to be more effective, resilient, productive and flexible.
Are there any side effects to Neurofeedback Therapy?
Neurofeedback does not usually induce uncomfortable side effects. Often people feel mildly pleasant side effects like relaxed tiredness after the session.
How long will Neurofeedback Therapy take and how much does it cost?
Neurofeedback Therapy sessions usually go for 1 hour and 15 minutes. The number of sessions a person requires varies depending on the issue. On average, 20-30 sessions are required for most people to see improvement and for improvement to be long-lasting. However, most people start to experience positive change within the first few sessions. Once there are long-lasting, sustainable changes, sessions are reduced slowly until the person no longer needs regular neurofeedback sessions.
